Jump Rope for Heart
Established in 1983, Jump Rope for Heart is a skipping and fundraising program run in Australian primary schools throughout the year. It encourages kids to have a positive attitude towards exercise, healthy eating and heart health while raising vital funds to fight heart disease.
Funds raised goes towards The Heart Foundation. The Heart Foundation supports over 580,000 Australians living with heart disease today, as well as working tirelessly to prevent and manage heart disease for future generations. Their work is purpose-driven, with a focus on stopping Australia’s number one killer: heart disease, which takes 50 lives every day.
The Heart Foundation acts to make a difference in the fight against heart disease by:
- Funding high-impact research, supporting emerging and leading heart health researchers
- Working to improve heart disease prevention, detection, care and support for all Australians
- Advocating to governments and industry for increased funding and resources for heart health
- Building community awareness about living a heart-healthy lifestyle. We do this through public health awareness campaigns, accessible information and resources
- Supporting health professionals in their work to prevent, diagnose, treat and manage heart disease.
Our school has registered to participate in this program and will send further information to parents in the weeks ahead. The conclusion of the program results in a Jump Off Day whereby students have a chance to show off their new skipping skills. We will provide a number of skipping opportunities for students in the weeks leading up to the Jump Off Day. We hope our school community will get behind this initiative and support this great cause, develop skills and have fun at the same time.

This afternoon our school was abuzz with over 75 families here to celebrate ‘Family Week.’ It was a perfect day to come together to celebrate the power of family relationships in all their diversities. This year's theme is ‘inclusiveness’. No two families are the same yet the people who support us and love us unconditionally - our family - play such an important part in our lives and community. Thank you for being part of our school family today!
In Foundation, we have been focusing on resilience. We learned, that resilience is all about bouncing back and trying again even if we make mistakes. It’s a lot easier to be resilient when you have good friends around you to help and support you. Together, we brainstormed ideas about how we can be kind to one another in the classroom and on the playground. We now know that sharing with others, inviting others to play, helping someone when they’re hurt and sharing are all great ways to be a good friend to our classmates.
St John’s Ambulance Victoria visited our school on the 1st of May to deliver their First Aid program to our students. This program has taken an innovative approach to ensure all First Aid lessons and fun and interactive experiences for students of all learning capabilities. Trained St John’s presenters lead students through tailored sessions on the importance of First Aid and what to do in a medical emergency. Our junior students learnt how to identify when there is an emergency, how to keep themselves safe and how to call for an ambulance. Senior students learnt how to deliver CPR and the things they can do to assist in an emergency.
RESILIENCE
In 3/4MD, we have been working on our resilience. We have been discussing fixed mindset v growth mindset. We were all able to think of moments in our lives where we weren't happy with the outcome, e.g. Ipad taken off us as we hadn’t done our homework, getting moody when I wasn’t chosen to work with friends, no technology until my room was clean. We may have reacted in a way that wasn’t the best. We brainstormed ways we could respond in the future and hope this to be our reaction next time.
