The Month of October
The Month of the Holy Rosary 2022 begins on Saturday, October 1st, and ends on Monday, October 31st. Traditionally, Catholics dedicated the month of October to the Most Holy Rosary. This is primarily due to the fact that the liturgical feast of Our Lady of the Rosary is celebrated annually on October 7. It was instituted to honour the Blessed Virgin Mary in gratitude for the protection that she gives the Church in answer to the praying of the Rosary by the faithful.
Medical Management- New Guidelines
MACS - Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools Melbourne has introduced a number of new policies and procedures for schools to manage the medical conditions of students.
Parents are required to complete a medication authority form if their child requires the administration of medication at school. This includes ventolin for asthma, epipen for anaphylaxis or antihistamine for allergies. This week we will send home the form for students who we have on record with these medical conditions.
It is a requirement for parents to also complete a medication authority form, if your child requires medication at school for a short period of time such as antibiotics, cough mixture or panadol. We are no longer able to administer medication to students without this completed form.
A copy of the form can be located on the school app or on the left hand side of the newsletter in a folder labelled “Medical”
Throughout this term we will contact parents of students with a health condition/healthcare need to complete a medical management plan, to ensure we have the correct information and plan in place to support the student.

18th October
Here in Australia, October marks World Mission Month, a celebration of the global work of the Church and the dedication of missionaries, both religious and lay, as they reach out and support children and communities in need around the world.
This term our Inquiry concept is all about community and our involvement in this project provides a wonderful way for our school community to help others.
Catholic Mission, as the Australian agency of the Pontifical Mission Societies, contributes funding and provides project support to critical church-run initiatives in Africa, Asia, Oceania and South America as well as remote dioceses within Australia.
Throughout World Mission Month in 2022, Catholic Mission are highlighting stories of mission from our partner country, Ethiopia. Across Australia, students will learn about a different reality to their own, and support the nutrition, health and education needs of children in remote communities.
To participate in Socktober this year on the 18th October the students are asked to wear crazy socks and bring along a gold coin donation that will be sent to Catholic Mission Australia. The students will still need to wear their school uniform on the day but they can be as creative as they like in how and where they wear their socks.
The game of soccer unites communities around the world. On the 18th each class will be allocated a time to go and shoot as many goals as they can over a time period. The students will be using the same home made soccer balls used by the children around the world including Pope Francis when he was a boy in Argentina. The classes will be making soccer balls from recycled materials next week. Please send along some odd socks, plastic bags, twine or wool to your child’s classroom by the 14th October. The following link shows how the sock balls are made. How to make a sock ball
Everyone is invited to come along to our whole school assembly on the 20th October at 3:00pm in the learning hub.
Our Year 6 Sustainability and Faith and Mission leaders will lead us in a prayer service for Mission week. We will be joined by our local member of Parliament Mr Nick Staikos who will be presenting the Lorraine Francis award to one of our Year 6 students.
Thank you for ongoing support,
Maree Hills
