Year 6 Graduation Celebrations
In the next few weeks we have a number of special graduation events planned for our year 6 students.

Other events that will take place for the year 6 students are Big Day Out at Luna Park on Friday 9 December, Big Day In, where students have special activities and a lunch at school and Graduation Liturgy and year 6 Family Picnic all on Thursday 15 December.
Thanks to P & F for supporting the year 6 students by providing and serving dinner for year 6 students after the graduation liturgy.

This term we have been very busy in Maths. We have made subtraction monsters showing how to count back to find the answer to the sums. In our lessons about 3D shapes we have created 3D robots using transparent shapes and made cubes using playdough and match sticks. We have also been learning to tell the time. Our favourite lesson was when we made our human clock.
In Grade 1 we have been doing a lot of great learning focusing on the Measurement and Geometry mathematics strand. Students have been learning about the difference between 2D shapes and 3D objects. We have also been learning how to describe 3D objects focusing on using everyday words such as 'corners', 'edges' and 'faces'. We have also made our own 3D shapes by cutting out and assembling nets.
In year 2 we have been learning to solve multiplication problems using equal groups, repeated addition and arrays. The students have enjoyed testing their knowledge and skills by solving challenging worded problems
PATTERNS AND ALGEBRA
Year 3/4s have been investigating patterns and algebra for the past week. This maths concept supports thinking, reasoning and working mathematically as students have to extend their thinking beyond what they see to generalise about situations involving unknowns. It is always a favourite amongst the students as they get to make predictions, recognise logical connections, unlock the unknown and analyse a situation.
I enjoy patterns and algebra as a maths unit because I like figuring out patterns. It is fun to look at numbers and try to work out - using maths of course - what the next one could be, the 50th one, the 108th one. This is a quick look at what algebra will be all about - Gus W, Year 4
The escape room was really messing with my mind - but in a good way. We had to use all the maths we know - division, multiplication, addition and subtraction. Trying to find the patterns and then the codes was a real challenge - but a good one! - Daraius M, Year 4
I really enjoyed doing the scavenger hunt activity. It made it fun to look for the equations to balance and work with friends - Harry T, Year 3
I really liked solving the equations with the games we play online - Leila F, Year 3
I think doing Escape Rooms is a really fun way to learn maths! - Medina L, Year 3

Food wasting tips
Can’t finish your food or have leftovers? Well lucky for you, here are some tips and tricks to save food and fill up empty stomachs.
If you buy too much food for a week then this is for you.
1. Make a weekly meal plan
Decide in advance what meals you want to make for lunch and dinner for the whole week. When you have a plan, you are less likely to spend money on things you don’t need, and food that could end up not being used and going to waste.
If you have lots of good food stuffed away then this will help you a ton.
2. Make meals from scratch
Look to make your own meals from scratch rather than buying any pre-prepared meals. The less processed the food you buy, the healthier it is for you and your family, and it usually costs less. So making your own meals from scratch can save your wallet and your health.
If you forget last minute shopping items or buy food products then here is a tip for you!
3. Make a shopping list and stick to it!
Once you’ve made your meal plan for the week, write down only the things you need to make those meals. This can help stop you from buying any unnecessary extras. Impulse shopping doesn’t help you or your wallet.
